The Shane Showdown was created to honor the life and legacy of Shane “Shaner” Brown, a man whose laughter, kindness, and generosity touched everyone who knew him. Shane passed away unexpectedly on October 28, 2024, leaving behind a community forever changed by his warmth and spirit — and a family determined to carry on the values he lived by every single day.

“He made everyone feel like they mattered. His laughter filled every room, and his kindness filled every heart. We honor him by living the way he did — with love, curiosity, and compassion.”

Shane was the kind of person who made everyone feel like they mattered. He had a laugh that could fill a room, a heart big enough for everyone he met, and a way of turning simple moments into lifelong memories. Whether he was fixing a friend’s fence, cracking jokes at “movie night,” or just taking time to really listen, Shane lived his life with joy, humility, and genuine care for others.

He was a devoted husband to Tonya, and a proud father to JD, Shay (and her husband Jay), and TJ, as well as a loving grandfather to Jackson. Together, they continue to share Shane’s legacy — reminding all of us to “be curious, not judgmental” (a favorite quote of his from Ted Lasso) and to always “Love Like Shane.”

The Shane Showdown is more than a charity hockey event — it’s a celebration of who Shane was and what he stood for: community, kindness, friendship, and love. Through this annual event, his family and friends come together to give back, lift others, and ensure that Shane’s example continues to shine throughout Cache Valley and beyond.

Because if there’s one thing Shane taught us, it’s that life is better when you care a little deeper, laugh a little louder, and love a little harder.

Love Like Shane. Always.
